About ELS Language Center

ELS Language Center, established in 1961 in Washington D.C., is a globally recognized network of language schools that has become a leader in English language education. With over 60 centers across the United States, ELS is renowned for its partnerships with universities and counseling agencies, providing international students with pathways to achieve their academic and career goals in the USA and beyond.

The international expansion began in 1978 with the opening of the first ELS center in Tokyo, Japan. This growth paved the way for ELS Malaysia, founded in 1990. Today, ELS Malaysia operates five English language training centers, endorsed by the Malaysian Ministry of Education, and is celebrated for offering top-tier English language programs.

Originally established to enhance English proficiency for immigrants pursuing the American Dream, ELS Language Center has consistently demonstrated its belief in the transformative power of English. In 1990, ELS Malaysia was founded with a clear mission: to deliver high-quality English language education, empowering students with greater opportunities for higher education and future success.

In 2012, UPM became the first non-U.S. university to host an on-campus ELS center, helping over 3,000 international students meet their English language requirements for academic programs. In 2019, ELS Malaysia achieved a historic milestone as the first language institution in Malaysia to receive international accreditation from NEAS.
