The Mechatronics program offers a comprehensive curriculum that equips students with knowledge and skills in instrumentation, circuit analysis, mathematics, electronics, digital systems, material science, robotics, programming languages, industrial management, safety, ethics, entrepreneurship, CAD analysis, and thermo-fluid dynamics.
Semester 1 focuses on instrumentation, control processes using sensor technology, circuit analysis using Kirchhoff's law and network theorems, and software-based engineering drawing.
Semester 2 builds upon the knowledge from the first semester, with a deeper study of mathematics, introduction to analogue electronics, and enhanced programming skills with Python.
In Semester 3, students continue studying mathematics, learn about logic circuits and their applications in digital systems, and explore number systems, Boolean algebra, and Karnaugh map techniques for constructing simplified digital circuits.
Semester 4 introduces material science, where students apply principles of chemistry and physics to understand the structure and properties of materials. Additionally, robotics is taught, covering the design, construction, operation, and control of robots and computer systems.
Semester 5 includes modules on programming languages, industrial management, safety, ethics, and entrepreneurship, fostering a creative mindset and innovative thinking.
In Semester 6, students utilize CAD software to analyze complex engineering systems, and they delve into thermo-fluid dynamics, which includes thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer for efficient production processes and product/system design.
Semester 7 involves a 16-week internship or industrial training, providing practical experience and preparing students for a smooth transition into the working environment.
Upon successful completion of this programme and fulfillment of requirements for credit transfer, you will be eligible to progress into Level 2 of the following degree programmes offered at APU
Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical & Electronic Engineering with Honours
Bachelor of Computer Engineering with Honours
Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronic Engineering with Honours
Bachelor of Engineering in Petroleum Engineering with Honours
Students who joined the Diploma in Mechatronic Engineering at APU University Malaysia will have the option to apply for the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Under this Scheme, students will be able to get 2 Degree Certificates and transcripts upon graduation: 1 from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and 1 from De Montfort University (DMU), UK. please note this is optional and costs GBP 375 Per year.
